Don’t tell the police – they’re not important

Hi teachers

After uploading some tips and suggestions for presenting at IATEFL, I thought it would also be interesting to post my talk from Glasgow earlier this year and perhaps get a discussion going about the content. In the talk, I’m basically suggesting that the way many teachers and coursebooks talk about or frame grammar rules is unhelpful, and I’m proposing an alternative. To see what that is, click on the links below to watch the talk (45 minutes) and look at the slides (which are a little unclear on the video). Alternatively, you could just have a look at the slides for a general overview of the content.

Once you’ve done that, I’d be very interested to hear what you think. Do you agree or disagree? Is this something you’d try? If you have, how did it go and how did the learners respond?

Hope you like it

Danny
